An Introduction to Homemade Hummus, via Shondaland

Hummus variations. (Noelle Carter)

When it comes to fun foods, hummus is always the life of the party — whether you’re entertaining or not. A classic Middle Eastern spread, traditional hummus is a purée of chickpeas flavored with garlic, lemon juice, tahini (sesame paste) and olive oil. Generally served as a dip, hummus works just as well paired alongside toasted pita and flatbread as it does served with colorful raw vegetable sticks.

And though you can find it pre-made at the store, hummus comes together in minutes at home. Best of all? You can switch up the flavorings and adjust the texture (smooth to chunky) to suit your tastes. Click here for recipes and more.
